Storyline
In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. caught an early private screening with my brother and… wow…

i couldn't have been more excited to see the movie after reading the
hunger games trilogy and it didn't disappoint AT ALL!!! it definitely
stayed true to the books (with some minor changes that actually
worked). the fight scenes were unbelievable and ruthless (woo, blood
and full on scenes- no sneaky camera-work to hide the brutality.
definitely pushed the pg13 rating!). fantastic acting by the whole
cast. i couldn't have been more pleased with this movie! definitely
recommend seeing it (and reading the series) fans will be surprised and
NOT disappointed

An Unstoppable Force of Awesomeness! All Hail The New King!

I have got to tell anyone who will listen that this is one of THE best
adventure movies I've ever seen. It's almost impossible to convey how
pumped I am now that I've seen it. I purposefully avoid hyping myself
for movies because when expectations are too high, nothing seems to be
able to reach them. I usually avoid the hype train whenever possible.
That said, I was jacked to see this movie and was fully aboard the hype
train. It couldn't be helped. So, I was certainly open to intense
disappointment had this movie not been good. I'm so happy to report
just the opposite has happened.

The only word I can think of to describe this movie is AWESOME. It's
amazing work and everything I had hoped for and more. It's exceptional
entertainment for the uninitiated but it has everything a fanboy could
want to be sure. It has every little nuance of what a fanboy wants to
see. One of the MANY things I loved was the tension and flat out
conflict that arises between team members. It's not a two dimensional
"team wonderful that bands together to fight crime ho ho ho." Most
don't like each other at fist and there is so much texture to be
played. That is great because so many of these characters are larger
than life. They have egos and the big guns aren't used to working with
other people or even playing by the rules. Stark, Thor and Banner all
work "the other side of the fence" so to speak. Then there's the Widow,
Hawkeye and Captain America who are used to following orders and
playing within a command structure. They are all thrown together in a
wonderful and, best of all, believable fashion. Again, more than I ever
dreamed possible.

The entire cast really delivered. You needed more than just action
actors or stunt doubles to play all these parts. The pathos is there
but so are the timing and true deep performances. Look, I was missing
Ed Norton as much as anyone on that hype train I talked about but I'm
so happy to say that Mark Ruffalo won me over. I hope he's locked up
for the long haul because we don't need any more changes. Three was the
lucky number for movie Banners. Every other actor in Avnegers that
we've seen before is BETTER than their previous incarnation (EVERY
single one) with the possible exception of RDJ as Stark. He's great but
it's hard to top his take on the character from the original Iron Man
in an ensemble movie. I also have to fully disclose that I'm insanely
attracted to Scarlett Johansson. I thought her Widow character was
amazing but I'm definitely judging that through rose colored glasses.
The character arcs that run there course during this film will surprise
a lot of general audiences expecting nothing more than a Transformers
type popcorn scarfdown.

I honestly don't want to give away ANY of the movie with this review
because this is one film that needs every scene to be savored. Do
yourself a favor and remain unspoiled. It's how I saw the movie (apart
from what the trailers showed) and even though you're obviously reading
this review, read no others with any kind of spoilers whatsoever.
Experience the awesomeness for yourself. Avengers as a movie and as a
team on screen is an unstoppable force. I'm just going to say, Hulk &
Thor combination equals AWESOME and leave it at that. This movie
defines MUST SEE.

Why did I watch this Hollywood movie?

Rating: 4/10

The characters: Mostly douches with bad lines.

The story: Aliens invade, their ships are clumsy and weird and jump on
water. America (and to a lesser, lesser extent Japan saves the world).
There are moments when you wish you could unsee the tacky ways they
(the movie makers) try to make heroes and bad-asses of certain people.
Most notably the old sailors on the USS Missouri which are posed (yes,
really posed!) everywhere, high and low in an awkward way that just
makes you wanna squirm and throw up a little bit.

The aliens: At first you think: "This alien race seems really noble."
Second thought: "I hope the aliens win, I hate the characters in this
movie so much!" Third thought: "Huh, so the aliens aren't noble,
they're just stupid. And they seem a bit evil according to the
unoriginal flashback John Carter got but… I'm still rooting for the
aliens! Go aliens, exterminate this movie-verse!!"

The sum: Why did I watch this movie with awkward characters, unlikable
at best. Silly plot with horribly pushed tie-ins to the battleship
game. Plain dumb aliens. In-your-face product placement (Cola Zero, LG,
Subway and probably some more). Why? I was really, really bored. And
now I've lost faith in Hollywood movie making. It's not better then
Transformers, It's just as bad.

If your over 10 years old: Don't watch this. If you 10 or younger:
Don't watch this.

Hollywood needs to learn that they can't push this crap from the toilet
to the big screen anymore!

Pure cinematic entertainment

saw the public screening of Safe in a film festival.Frankly speaking I
was stunned by the movie.Simple plot but the twists and turns in the
movie were amazing.I will not reveal the plot details because you will
loose interest in it.It's slick,stylish and high on acting and visual
effects.

Jason is the man who reigns supreme in this film and leaves a strong
impression on the audiences mind with his stellar performance. His
smile, dialogue delivery and every expression deserves a bow.

The director Boaz Yakin handles the scenes well and never lets the
adrenaline rush or the script to fall flat. He keeps the audiences
glued to their seat and this versatile man gives as a slick action
thriller which is far better than Haywire,The Mechanic or Killer Elite.

The script is well written and every scene is well handled. Dialogues
are brilliant and none of the scene fall flat. No unnecessary toilet
humour and soundtracks have made the film even more appealing.

Safe is an amazing movie with unforgettable action scene and car chase
sequences and one of the best of Jason Statham. Highly Recommended.

Precursor: I just moved back into town two days ago and had made plans
to see one of my old friends tonight. I did not want to see this movie,
and wouldn't have under any other circumstances but my friend really
wanted to and the tickets were free so I went.

Review itself: This is of no disrespect to Jonah Hill or his fans at
all, but I, personally have grown tired of what seems to now be a
plethora of wanna be Hangover and Superbad's. (The success of Project X
seriously worries me…). Anyways, having that mind set approaching
tonight and considering the fact I didn't laugh once during the 21 JS
trailer, green or red band… I wasn't expecting all that much out of
the experience aside from leaving the house and catching up with a
buddy.

But damn.

I honestly thought this movie was great. Yes, there were some vulgar
for the sake of being vulgar cop-outs, shock gags and penis jokes but
the majority of the movie I found to be surprisingly satirical/smart,
self-aware, and situationally hilarious. Despite the clever script, the
editing is what really made this average movie exceptional, hosting
some of the most awkwardly humorous camera shot transitions, scene
changes and music integration. I got the impression that even the
dumbest of this movie's jokes and clichés knew that they were such and
surprisingly were given the proper build up/context to at least warrant
a chuckle.

All in all… genuine, clever, vulgar yet respectable comedy with some
heart.

IMO a very good career move for both Hill and Tatum.

Stoked for the sequel.

Smart, intelligent, engaging and surprisingly witty Headhunters

At first I have to say I read the novel of which this movie is based
upon, "Headhunters" by Jo Nesbø, two years ago. A thriller I liked
quite a lot. Usually a novel is better than the film. Well, here Morten
Tyldum (Acclaimed films as "Buddy" and a short in "Most people usually
live in China"), succeeded in making a film just as interesting and
exciting as the book.

Nesbø's writing is interesting. This is most probably who Jo Nesbø's
first movie adaption of his series of novels with Harry Hole will be
directed by Martin Scorsese, on Nesbø's demand – his favourite
director.

Actually I still kept being surprised as the movie went along. Not only
because I can't remember all details in the book, but simply because
the movie has a pace and also from time to time action-clipping which
makes you feel poor Roger Brown's disasters. The handcraft is
beautifully done. As simple as that.

Actually this film was sold to more than 50 distributors in just as
many countries before it even premiered in Norway. Probably both to the
novel writers Jo Nesbø's for the latter years has become world
acclaimed and compared to Stieg Larsson, buy maybe also due to director
Morten Tyldums merits so far. Of course also credit to the producers,
managing to sell on a promise!?

Mark Wahlberg has said he was stunned by the film, and is now to make
an American remake of it, with himself as Roger. Which, of course, is
not at all needed. The original is as good as it gets.

Well, back to the story. Roger Brown is a self-obtained headhunter for
big companies, which has to steal art on the side to keep his woman
happy. Or at least he think he has to do so. He has all the right
connections, until he starts stealing from the wrong guy, while
headhunting him as a new boss to a successful company. A former
mercenary, or different kind of headhunter, he's turning out to be.
When he understands that his greed has gotten him into trouble, he
really finds out what it is, being headhunted.

Both Aksel Hennie and Nicolai Coaster-Waldau is perfectly cast for this
movie. Synnøve Macody Lund does a decent job in her debut-role, as do
the rest of the cast. Fun also to see that real working police-chiefs
are attending the police press conference in the movie. Didn't know
that even was in question. This actually makes both an in-joke as well
as making the plot believable.

It will surprise me if this film doesn't get a remake in Hollywood in
less than two years. Not that is'll be that good, or even necessary.
But that's how the Hollywood-world is, nowadays.

No doubt, the script is good. So is in all aspects the rest of the film
as well. The film is smart, intelligent, surprising witty, and will
engage you all the way through, both as a good story as well as a love
story or a thriller. How much more do you want?

Relentless, Fast-Paced Action that Helps & Hurts It

The latest action/thriller from Luc Besson (Taken) follows a similar
formula of his other action films. Lockout jumps right into the action
and refuses to slow down. The premise is somewhat original with many
elements from other future isolated prison films. I think the best way
to describe this movie without giving away too many details is that is
a cross between John Carpenter's "Escape From New York" and David
Fincher's "Alien3" (minus the alien of course).

Guy Pearce plays a wise cracking, hardened government agent who,
following some misunderstanding with his superiors, has to go into
space on a solo rescue mission for the President of the U.S.'s daughter
(Maggie Grace) who is trapped on a run wild women-less prison holding
murders and rapists used for conducting experiments. Okay maybe the
premise is not too original.

Pearce's portrayal of Snow is one action movie fans will like, he can
take a punch while delivering effortless one-liners (much like Bruce
Willis did in Die Hard). But I will say the zippy comebacks get
annoying at times, some were great zingers I will admit but there are
some that were unnecessary. You got the idea Snow didn't give a crap
about anything without them. Maggie Grace was a typical damsel in
distress, nothing much else to add there. The villains were kind of
creepy, Joseph Gilgun was off the wall but predictable and same could
be said for the leader played by Vincent Regan. I actually thought of
Peter Stormare as Langral as the major antagonist rather than the
prisoners.

Like I say in the title, it has action from start to finish which has
advantages and disadvantages. The very original special effects were
fantastic and fight scenes were well done which made the movie go by
very fast. The problem with so much action is that the story gets
jumbled or rushed. Besson used this for "Taken" and it worked out for
it, but with Lockout there were some things missing or flaws in the
story. One was there seemed to be some references to the President
being like a tyrant by Pearce's character but it is never really
explained.

Overall it was a fun movie, great action with so-so acting and an
interesting outer space setting. 7/10 for me, maybe if it were 15
minutes longer it could have made up for its flaws.

Mindless, Action Packed, and Better than the First

Let me start this right off the bat and tell you it's better than Clash
of the Titans(Even though that's not saying much)However, Wrath of the
Titans supplies enough action set pieces, that you have a good enough
flick that you should check out this weekend. The plot is very simple,
it's set 10 years after the events of the first film where Perseus and
his son fish for a living. Hades and Zeus' son Ares trick Zeus and
capture him. Now, the titans are getting stronger while Zeus is getting
weaker. Perseus has to go to hell to save his father. There are some
pretty cool monsters in this film, like the demons Makhai and the scene
with Kronos is AMAZING. If you're looking for a good time this weekend
and go into this movie with an open mind. Then you will definitely have
a good time watching Wrath of the Titans. 8/10

I did not expect it to be this good.

I'll be honest. When I saw the trailer, I was madly excited. It looked
fantastic. But then, after a while, I remembered, that the main point
of a trailer is to do just that. Hype the film, while revealing
literally all the main plot scenes and parts. I didn't know if it was
the case with 'Safe House', since, hey, it's Denzel Washington. That
man doesn't just do any role.

I just got back from the movie theater, and am I glad that I was wrong.
The movie is fantastic, electrifying. Do know that I don't just 'get
off' on any action flick. In most cases, I just watch and forget. This
was actually, fantastic. I don't have a single bad word to say about
it, the way it was directed, acted or anything else. Everything was
simply fantastic.

I realize my words sound absurd, and the score looks the same, but it
really is worth it. I didn't see an action movie this well written, and
this well acted in a really, really long time. Of course, by the end of
the movie, any experienced watcher will figure out the ending by
himself, but even though you 'get it', it's still extremely fun to sit
through and see how the pieces connect.

I really hate long reviews, so I'm trying to make this one as short and
sweet as possible. Lastly, have in mind that not one cast member failed
his role. Ryan was fantastic, even better then I could've imagined (a
nice showing of his acting skills after Green Lantern and Change-Up),
and Denzel, what to say that hasn't been already said about that man's
acting. Phenomenal doesn't cut it.

Go and see it. It's much better then anything else thats currently
'showing'.

Plot

Storyline

I have so much to say about this movie but I guess I should start with
what or who is John Carter.

John Carter (Kitsch) is an American Civil War soldier who is
transported to Mars. He first encounters the green skinned warlike
nomads known as the Tharks and, due to his superhuman powers (Mars
gravity and all that), quickly becomes embroiled in not only the
political issues of the Tharks, but those of the red skinned, humanoid
Martians as well. The humanoids control Mars through a series of city
states with Zodanga annihilating everything in it's path. Helium is the
last free state. Helium also has a beautiful and feisty Princess
(Collins) and a political marriage to save all has been arranged. Then
she meets our handsome hero….yep you guessed it. The two fall in love
and are now fighting for not just what they love and believe in but who
they love and believe in.

This movie is based on the book Princess of Mars, the first in a series
of 11 novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs 100 years ago. They are
also known as The Barsoom or John Carter of Mars series. A lot of what
you have seen in these types of movies up until now has drawn, in some
way, on this series of novels. Star Wars, Avatar, Babylon 5, Flash
Gordon and even some Indiana Jones. I am sure the list is endless but
Sci Fi is not my genre. When you watch John Carter, you will be able to
pick the similarities immediately.

If you are aware of this movie's existence, then you are probably aware
of the negative attention it has garnered. I saw this movie over 2
weeks ago and have had to watch as people all over the internet trash
it. They have laughed at Disney for spending $250 million on an obvious
dud. They have said Disney has distanced itself from the movie before
it's release. They have criticised everything from the trailers to the
posters to the casting of 2 unknowns as the leads. Oh and they have
done all this without having seen the movie! These people are best
ignored and sent back to their mother's basements!!

Now, I will say that Disney has done itself NO favours whatsoever with
the posters and trailers for John Carter. This I will concede. But I
have found the best trailer on You Tube and it was made by serious fans
of the books thejohncarterfiles.

Please, if you are going to watch a trailer for this movie, make it
this one. It just gives you a much better idea of what the movie looks
like.

So what did I think? I LOVED it. I really, truly did. I wanted to see
it because I had read so much about it over the last few years. Sci Fi
may not be my thing but that doesn't mean I don't know what's going on
in the land of movie making.

This movie has all the blockbuster action we have come to expect from
this genre. The CGI is spectacular. The Martian characters are
fantastic. The stand out Martian is without a doubt Woola, a pet that
adopts John Carter and is as ugly as he is adorable. An ugly slug like
animal that will melt your heart. Trust me There is good vs evil.
There is Martian vs Martain. There is human vs human. There is serious
stuff. There is fun stuff. A stand out scene I just cannot resist
mentioning….

When Carter does arrive on Mars, his introduction to Tars Tarkas is
absolutely hilarious. The mistake with his name becomes an ongoing gag
throughout the movie and to great affect. Even our hero gives up,
smiles and just shakes his head. Oh and yes, there is a very easy and
believable reason why they all speak English.

This movie is for everyone who likes Star Wars or Avatar. It's for
everyone who ever wished they could go to Mars. It's for everyone who
likes a love story between a handsome hero and beautiful, spirited
Princess. It's for everyone who wants to see a great movie and escape,
literally, to another world for 2 hours. It's for everyone who likes a
simple Sci Fi story. It's for everyone who likes a layered story they
can think on a little later. It's for little kids (although at over 2
hours running length it may just be a tad too long for our littlest
movie goers) and it's for big kids.

Ignore the critics and go see this movie. I think you will enjoy it. I
saw it in 3D and I usually think 3D is a waste of money (sorry studios)
but for this movie, fork out the extra $5 and see it in 3D.
